Wedding Photographer at U Capu Biancu, Corsica

Some weddings give you a venue; some venues give you a definition. U Capu Biancu, the seaside estate near Bonifacio, is where I photographed a three-day Corsican wedding, a sunset ceremony on the private beach, a full day at sea around the Lavezzi islands, dancing on the sand until the night gave up, and it has been my reference for what an island wedding can be ever since.

What I shot there, and what it taught me

Three days, and each one different. Day one: arrivals through the afternoon, a long dinner as the maquis released its evening scent, the unposed images of a party still discovering where it was. Day two, the wedding: slow preparations with the sea in every window, a ceremony on the private beach timed to the last soft hour, cocktails as the water turned to metal, barefoot portraits at the precise minute the light peaked, and a dance floor on the sand with no walls and no closing time. Day three: the boat, the Lavezzi, granite islets and water that photographs like a rendering, swimming off the stern, and the frames where the wedding relaxed into pure joy.

Working knowledge those days left me with: the beach faces its best light late, and the timeline must protect that window the way other weddings protect the ceremony itself; the granite and the white sand act as natural reflectors, flattering in soft light and fierce at noon, which sets the day's whole architecture; and the boat day is not an extra, it is the estate's second venue, and budgeting for it buys the chapter couples reread most.
