C & C's wedding was written across two countries and three days of photography, my favorite formula: the ceremony in France, on the Vincennes side of Paris, between the château, the woods and an estate in the Paris region; then Mallorca, for two days of images that gave their gallery what a wedding day alone never can, the sunrise, the sunset, and the world beneath the surface.
The French chapter set the tone: Vincennes, its château and woods and the estate's reception, gave the classic, elegant opening that belongs to families. Mallorca was the inverse chapter, the one that belonged only to the two of them: no schedule, no table to return to, only light to chase from summit to cove. That contrast is exactly why I champion the two-act format: each register gives the other its value.
Formentor, the island's summit
For the Mallorcan images we chose the Formentor peninsula, one of the most beautiful places on the island: white stone that recalls the Mediterranean's famous calanques, ravishing coves, and a high point from which you can photograph both sunrise and sunset, a gift of geography we exploited without a shred of guilt. Sunrise in the mountains above the sea, evening gold on the coves: two lights, one landscape.
Three days, three registers
The structure mirrored my three-day Corsican wedding elsewhere in this portfolio: one ceremony day, one day of couple photographs in everyday clothes, in the spirit of an engagement session, and a final day of after-session images at sunset, dress and suit brought back out. That breathing room changes everything: the wedding day belongs to the guests and the emotion; the days that follow belong to the light.
And then there was the water. Formentor's is unreally transparent, so the dive housing came out of the bag: dress and suit beneath the surface, weightless portraits in the blue, fabric unfurling in a slow motion no breeze can imitate, the underwater signature my traveling couples come looking for. It asks for two things above all, clear water and a playful couple; Mallorca supplied both.

The sunrise argument
If one image argues for the whole format, it is the sunrise set from Formentor's high point: the couple in wedding attire, the Mediterranean below still holding its night color, and a light that lasted twenty perfect minutes. Sunrise asks a real effort of a couple two days after their wedding, the alarm is unkind, and it repays that effort with a privacy no golden evening can match: the island to ourselves, no timeline, no onlookers, just the three of us and the first light. Every couple who has made that climb with me says the same thing afterward: worth it, twice over.
One couple, several chapters
C & C belong to the couples I keep meeting across the years: we have also photographed together in Les Sables-d'Olonne, where their parents own a house, images in wedding attire on my own coast, symbolic for them even though they did not marry there. The dress coming out a third time, on a beach that matters to the family's story: that may be my favorite definition of what wedding photographs can become, a thread that keeps weaving long after the dinner's last thank-you.
