An editorial is not a wedding: it is a laboratory, a space where you create for creation's sake, with no timeline to keep and no guests to greet, only ideas to push to their conclusion. This one was born from a shared ambition with a florist whose work I love deeply, Nuances Florales, who wanted to lead an artistic project centered on flowers with a resolutely modern approach. What remained was choosing the laboratory: it would be Château de la Flocellière, one of my favorite châteaux, the one whose light I know hour by hour from years of weddings, a real secret proposal and family sessions across the seasons.
The wager: the modern inside the millennial
The whole interest of this editorial lived in its deliberate tension: sculptural, contemporary floral compositions and a colorful, current artistic direction, set inside a backdrop that crosses the centuries, the medieval keep, the Renaissance façades, the formal gardens. The result demonstrates something I believe deeply about châteaux: they are not condemned to classicism. Served well, they make the modern stand out better than any white studio, because the contrast tells a story, today's creation in dialogue with yesterday's stone.
What the images say
Concretely, the direction played on three registers. The sculptural florals, treated as works in their own right and photographed with the care usually reserved for brides. The couture gown, whose contemporary lines conversed with the château's perspectives, modern in front of ancient, precisely the contrast we were after. And the Flocellière's spring light, which I know by heart: the formal gardens in the morning softness, the Renaissance façade at the hour it turns blond, the keep in backlight for the silhouettes. Every image in this series is a verified hypothesis: yes, this château carries the modern, and here is how.
What an editorial is for
I say it gladly to the couples browsing this gallery: an editorial is a training ground for all of us, florist, photographer, designers. It is where we test the ideas that will later feed real weddings, the bold color pairings, the floral staging, the framings a wedding day does not always leave time to search for. When you see a wedding with a highly accomplished aesthetic, there are often editorials like this one upstream, where the team sharpened its eye. It is also how lasting vendor collaborations are built: you learn to work together without the pressure of a wedding day, and when a real celebration reunites you, the score is already rehearsed. A word on working with florists
A confession from behind the camera: florist-led editorials are my favorite kind, because flowers impose a discipline of light that makes everyone better. Petals punish harsh sun and reward the soft hours, exactly like faces do, so an editorial built around sculptural florals trains the whole team to schedule like wedding perfectionists. Nuances Florales pushed that discipline furthest, and the series' consistency of light is her doing as much as mine.
